The Roadmap to Excellence –
Achieving the Skills, Knowledge & Abilities for Case Management Practice

September 27 and 28, 2012
DCU Convention Center, Worcester, MA

Conference Overview

With the ever changing medical and work environment, it is important to refocus on the core principles of case management practice embodied within the case management Body of Knowledge.   In order to remain on the road to excellence, case managers must keep abreast of the essential domains of case management knowledge: psychosocial aspects of care, healthcare management, delivery & reimbursement, rehabilitation, principles of practice and case management concepts.  By increasing our knowledge and expertise, case managers can better serve and meet the needs of the individuals they serve while actively engaging within the case management process.

Objectives

At the completion of this conference the participants will have the ability to:

  • Discuss current healthcare management, reimbursement and delivery challenges
  • Enhance the knowledge of practice principles, concepts and communication skills for the case manager
  • Identify multicultural, psychosocial and behavioral issues that can impact an individual’s emotional, psychological, physical and financial health
  • Explore the impact of chronic illness/disability

General Session Speakers

DarrenLaCroix suit Event Planner ToolsIn 2001, Darren LaCroix, the World Champion of Public Speaking, out-spoke 25,000 contestants from 14 countries to win that title. That was just a benchmark. Since that victory, Darren has traveled the world demystifying the process of creating a powerful speech. He has roused audiences in faraway places like Saudi Arabia, China, Oman, Malaysia, and Taiwan with his inspirational journey from first-rate chump to first-class champ, proving anything is possible if you are willing to work for it.

Darren may have been “born without a funny bone in his body,” but he possessed the desire to learn and the willingness to fail necessary to achieve his dream. The self-proclaimed “student of comedy” is living proof that humor is a skill that can be learned.

As a keynote speaker since 1994, he brings his incredible story to conferences around the world. He is consistently the top rated speaker at conferences. He changes the way people think about challenges, humor, and presentations… forever. His clients include IBM, Fidelity investments, and numerous associations too long to list!

He is known as the person who helps speakers launch their careers in professional speaking. His trademarked program Get Paid to Speak by Next Week® has helped many speakers launch their very first checks. He also supports speakers doing business coaching through his internet program, Get Paid to Speak TV.

Now, Darren is in high demand as a speaking coach. The new standard for advanced presentation skills was created when he co-created How Professional Presenters Can Own the Stage. There is no other program on the market that even comes close to this transformational program. Viewers witness exactly how coaches can create lasting significant improvement in just two days.

His successful book, Laugh & Get Rich: How to Profit from Humor in Any Business (6th printing), contains interviews with corporate executives who share his philosophy. Now translated into three languages, it is a mainstay on business bookshelves.

As co-founder of The Humor Institute and a co-creator of The Humor Boot Camp®, Darren directs seminars that help presenters wisely use the power of humor to “lighten up” their presentations. He is also an award-winning producer of the film Healing, Hope, and Humor.

Patrice V. Sminkey - Chief Executive Officer, The Commission for Case Management Certification
As the Commission’s chief executive officer, Patrice manages multiple responsibilities, from government relations to marketing to the launch of new products and services. But one, perhaps less glamorous, issue is close to her heart: employer relations. At least twice a month, she says, she hears from a board-certified case manager whose employer didn’t recognize the CCM® certification during a performance appraisal. That distresses her. She knows, in the long term, efforts to influence health care policy will increase employer awareness, but she’s committed to making changes now. She works with the Commission to redouble its efforts on the employer front, and she encourages individual board-certified case managers to speak to their colleagues, employers and associates. Part of her mission, of course, is to promote the CCM certification. But it’s larger than that, she says. With the health care delivery system undergoing unprecedented transformation, there is a profound need for credentialed case managers. She’s committed to helping those that employ professional case managers meet that need.
