CMSNE 2026 Spring Conference
The Balancing Act …
Case Managers Juggling the Current Healthcare System
Friday, April 24, 2026 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Virtual Event
5 RN, SW & CCM credits

Overall Conference Purpose Statement

Balancing the Healthcare Changes in a Continuously Evolving Landscape will provide healthcare and case management professionals with practical professional and personal tools, which are designed to help navigate today’s rapidly changing environment.

The program will focus on the evolving role of case managers. It will explore the current challenges with reimbursement for GLP-1 treatment. It will also examine the impact of VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) on healthcare delivery and discuss Veterans in the community, the VA healthcare system, and access to available VA services. In addition, the program will discuss the national movement toward “Making America Healthy Again,” including the potential impact, opportunities, and risks this focus may pose for healthcare and support service systems.

Participants will leave with actionable strategies to remain resilient, collaborative, and effective within today’s healthcare system.

 Overall Conference Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this conference the attendees will be able to:

  • Discuss the current status of GLP-1 therapy and ways to address challenges with coverage
  • Identify current challenges within the governmental healthcare program and the impact it has on the dually-enrolled (Medicare and Medicaid) population
  • Recognize the risks of not embracing change in professional practice in a VUCA world.
  • Examine Veterans Affairs (VA) and access to resources, identifying opportunities for improved coordination and navigation of services for the Veteran.

Session I – All you need to know about GLP-1’s

GLP-1 receptor agonists have emerged as a transformative—yet complex—frontier in the treatment of obesity and chronic conditions. This session provides a comprehensive deep dive into the “Balancing Act” case managers face when navigating the clinical benefits, high costs, and coverage hurdles associated with these medications.

Participants will explore the current GLP-1 landscape, moving beyond the headlines to understand the clinical mechanisms and the long-term implications of sustained therapy. We will candidly discuss the ripple effects of non-coverage, examining how lack of access exacerbates the burden of obesity and complicates the management of co-morbid chronic diseases.

Session II
Transitioning Service Members, New Veterans,
Veteran new to the VA and Point of Entry into VA Health Care System

This program is designed to support transitioning service members, newly separated veterans, and veterans who are new to the VA system by providing clear guidance on how to access and navigate the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). The session aims to improve awareness of available services, streamline entry into care, and ensure veterans are connected to the appropriate resources for their healthcare and benefits needs.

Session III – Making America Healthy Again? Risks to Long Term Services and Supports

Changes in health care delivery methodology and guidance under the Trump Administration have demonstrated a dramatic shift away from evidence-based models. The landscape in Long term Services and Supports (LTSS) and Home and Community Based Services (HCBS)- including such support programs as the Community Partners, PACE, PCA, AFC, and Adult Day Care, have been among the most impacted. Reductions in Medicaid funding, manifested through roster reductions and back to work requirements, have disrupted coverage and service eligibility, with long term consequences expected. Providers face significant cutes in Medicare reimbursement; these cuts, in conjunction with a moratorium on staffing requirements in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025 (OBBBA) pose a dangerous combination for patients. States will become increasingly responsible for the health and well-being of their citizens, leading to disparate health outcomes and few universally accepted sciences supported standards of care. Our community must align to get through these troubled times and prepare for the repair work of the future.

Session IV – Case Management in a VUCA World:
Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous

In an era defined by VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity), healthcare professionals face a landscape that is more diverse, dynamic, and interconnected—yet far less predictable—than ever before. Originally introduced by the U.S. Army War College in 1987 and adopted into strategic leadership circles in 2002, the VUCA framework is essential for modern decision-making and risk management.

This educational program bridges the gap between high-level strategic concepts and frontline clinical practice.
